My First Best Friend Sessions™

After much public acclaim in New York and Connecticut for my "My First Best Friend™" series, I am now bringing it to my new home in California. This is a photographic study of the very special relationship between a grandparent and a grandchild.  If you are not familiar with the very personal and inspirational story behind these sessions - please read this first.

Capturing the one-of-a-kind relationship (of all ages) between a grandparent and grandchild in a portrait is a gift that will be passed on for generations to come.

These sessions will result in the most PERFECT  Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts.

What NOT to Do During a Headshot Session Tips

Not all photographers coach their clients on what to do and what NOT to do during a headshot session. Many aren't skilled on how to pose their subjects to best flatter features; equally how to deaccentuate features you may not love.

In addition, many take the time to get to know you and your business to customize a session for maximum results.

Knowing my client's goals are IMPERATIVE to creating beautiful imagery that they will be happy with. Not to mention, this is my favorite part - getting to know one another so I can have creative liberty to create images that I KNOW you will love. 

So, what about what NOT to do during a headshot session?

Here's my top 3 list:

1. Don't expect the photographer will photoshop you into a front page model. Take the time to prepare (I supply you a preparation booklet that makes this super easy.)

2. Don't assume you know the best way to pose for the camera. When hiring an experienced professional headshot photographer you should also be getting a posing coach.

3. Don't forget styling and makeup. Styling comprises of clothing and props. If your session is a Personal Branding session where we visit multiple locations with you doing different things, it helps to plan ahead. I almost always recommend professional makeup. This is not wedding day makeup, however, a professional makeup artist will know how to accentuate certain features that can make or break a headshot. (Did you know that eyebrows is one of the top 3 things that I say must be visited by your makeup artist to make a great portrait?)

7 Ways to Use Your Headshot

If you're an entrepreneur you've heard of the "Marketing Rule of 7."

"The rule of 7" is a marketing principle that states that your prospects need to come across your offer at least 7 times before they really notice your offer and start to take action. This principal has deep roots in psychology, and its effectiveness has long been observed through a psychological phenomenon called the “familiarity principle.” The more people are exposed to something, the more likely they are to take note of it and develop a preference for it.

Studies show that through constant exposure to something, not only will we start to take note of it but we just might actually like it more. We tend to like things that are familiar to us, and one of the best ways to induce familiarity, subconsciously, is through repetition.

I could go on more about this marketing principal but today I'm going to share 7 places you can utilize that great new headshot portrait:  

1. Social Media Profiles: Duh. Your photo should be consistent across your Linkedin, Facebook, Google Plus and Instagram profiles. By using the same photo across the board you are increasing memorability and recognition.

2. Email Signature: I use WiseStamp for a customized email signature. Once you set it up you can use it across all your devices.

3. Website "About Me" Page: This might be the first place a potential client "sees" you. As you may know from Facebook that the most often seen posts are those with an accompanying photo.

4. Website "Contact Me" Page: You can use the same photo but ideally you should have a few options to use for different types of marketing.

5. Business Card: We all collect business cards at networking events and conferences but you'll be sure to remember the ones that have a person's photo on it. It's a great way to stay top of mind.

6. Facebook Groups: Often when you join a Facebook Group you make a little introduction about yourself. Be sure to post your photo along with the introduction. Also, when posting news or an asking for a tip, consider adding your headshot. Your post will less likely get lost and will be associated with your content.

7. Newsletter: You are already in your client's inbox, now make a more personal connection with your readers by including a photo. This puts a face to the voice of your newsletter's message.

Father's Day Gift

So what do you REALLY think of your dad's or husband's headshot? Is it 10 years old when he had hair (sorry - not sorry!) Or is it a snapshot of him out playing golf with his buddies? A gift certificate for a headshot session is creative, useful and memorable. It’s just the type of thing we have a hard time doing for ourselves, yet it adds so much value to one’s business, personal life, social media, etc. After all, doesn't everyone need a nice headshot!
