I found Nina on Google when I was looking to get a headshot for a new job. In our free Discovery Call, she answered all my questions about outfits to bring, backgrounds, color schemes, pricing and the process itself. I was fortunate to snag a cancelled slot for the same week.
During the session, we took many photos over one hour with changes in lighting, body position, head position, and posture. We reviewed sets of images as we took them to identify the top options.
Even though we had 2 great candidates for my final headshot, Nina listened to my feedback (I felt I was smiling just slightly too much in one), and we actually shot more which ended up yielding the perfect photo. She is friendly, fun to work with, and very skilled in portrait photography.
I felt I received a great value and would reccomend Nina to anyone.

I needed head shots to upgrade my LinkedIn profile picture and for a web site. I needed Nina to capture my personality which people said was missing from my home produced photos. I discovered Nina's business from a Google search having been disappointed with the offerings on Yelp (primarily weddings or kiddie shots). I needed something more professional and that is exactly what I got from Nina. We had an initial conversation over the phone where I detailed the kind of look that I was going for. She provided directions on how to prepare for head shots (I'm a guy I need directions:-)) and arranging the shoot was a breeze. We discussed outfits that I should wear (remember, I'm a guy) and I was encouraged to bring as many items as I wanted. We also covered using my Fedora (for the website I needed a 50's Private Detective look).
On the day of the shoot, Nina put me at ease and encouraged me to relate stories/experiences to bring my personality out. She gave me two very different looks between the LinkedIn profile and the Private Detective which worked great. In fact, she took so many great shots that it my wife and I (back to the Guy part, again) several days to narrow down our choices. At every stage Nina has been quick to respond, engaging and accommodating. For one of the shots I needed a bit more space above my head to frame for LinkedIn. She turned it around in no time at all.
I would highly recommend Nina to upgrade your image - either professionally or for portraits for your loved ones - my wife wanted a particular shot as she "doesn't have many nice shots of me"! Hey, I'm not that rough!

Here is an in-depth breakdown of the experience I had working with Nina:
Initial meeting – Nina’s whole demeanor was one of openness and warmth. Taking photos, for most, is an awkward experience filled with insecurities and fears. This warmth she gives immediately lets you know, “We are in this shoot as a team.” She keeps an open dialogue and puts the power of choice in your hands regarding what you want and don’t to show. Want to shave 10 lbs off your face? She can do that. Want to wear your wrinkles with pride? She will make that picture amazing. Your openness with her is directly correlated to how well these pictures will turn out.
Photoshoot – Once the lights come on and the camera starts going is really where you start to differentiate a professional from an amateur. Think back to those horrid JCPenny headshots. There is no adjustment of lighting to contour your face. There is no adjustment of camera angles to convey unspoken emotion (a slight upward camera angle conveys authority and Nina incorporates this into her methodology). A lot of amateur photographers will just take a picture and over edit causing images that look nothing like you. Nina coaches you through the poses and makes you look better before the shutter even clicks. The result is less edits needing to be made on the back end which creates an authentic photo that both blows you away and still looks like you. BE COACHABLE. Putting your full trust in her instructions and not thinking, “I look stupid doing this” or “This feels weird” will result in fantastic products.
Final product – She was incredibly fast with her editing and got the finished product back to me same day. I was definitely not expecting it to be done so fast! Aside from the speed, the photos speak for themselves.
Overall review – Words can not express the confidence boost that comes when you know your Linkedin photo was professionally done and is leagues above someone who took a photo in their backyard. First impressions are everything in society and, especially in a digital age, your photo is the first thing people see. Potential clients, future employers, and everyone in between will see this photo. Imagine looking for a financial advisor and you see a photo like the one below vs. one using a backyard photoshoot. I searched for headshot photographers in the San Francisco Bay Area. I viewed her work and liked the quality of the photos. I wanted to go to a studio with the proper lights and backgrounds available. I sent an inquiry to a few photographers and Nina replied to me and later called me. She takes Venmo/Zelle and credit cards with an extra 3.5% processing fee. She sent me a link to Venmo, so I was choosing the correct person and I paid for the photo session.
I called her ahead of time to see if I should come fully dressed or bring all possibilities to show her. She said to bring everything and arrive 1/2 hour early. I have never had a professional headshot done before so I was nervous. Nina put me at ease right away with her warmth and humor. I brought 1 suit and 3 dress shirts with ties. She told me that lavender one worked the best with my completion. It was my wife's favorite color as well.
Since this was a head and shoulders shot, I did not need to put on my suit pants/dress shoes. She continued to make me laugh while she was giving me direction about head position, head tilt etc., which made for natural great expressions. We viewed the first 20 photos on a big monitor, and we selected 3 that we liked.
Next, I put on the suit jacket, took another 20 or so photos and we looked at them, made our selections. Then we narrowed the 6 down to our favorite 2 photos.
She explained to me that each photo that I select is $295 and includes photoshop work to make the photo stand out without over processing the image.
I ended up choosing 1 photo with my shirt/tie without the jacket and 1 photo with the suit top/shirt/tie. She asked me if I wanted to shoot other photos with the 2 other shirts/ties and I declined because the photos that I selected are excellent and will be better afterwards with some photoshop touch ups.
The final photos will be available to me in a few days via an email link to a gallery. I cannot wait to send these files to my friends and family members.
I would highly recommend Nina to anyone looking for a headshot photographer.
