ACTOR HEADSHOTS

Contemporary Headshots for Bay Area Actors and Performers

Your headshot is the first decision a casting director makes about you. Before the audition, before the callback, before the room — they have already decided whether you are worth a closer look. That decision happens in seconds and it happens entirely based on your image.

I photograph actors and performers throughout the Bay Area from my private studio in downtown Pleasanton. Sessions are designed to show range, capture personality and produce images that work for the specific roles and markets you are pursuing.

What Makes an Actor Headshot Work

A strong actor headshot does one thing well. It makes the person looking at it want to know more. Not because it is technically perfect or beautifully lit — because something in the image is alive and specific to you.

That requires direction that goes beyond where to stand and how to tilt your head. It requires understanding what you are going for, what roles you are right for and what the casting director on the other side of that image is actually looking for.

As an Associate of Peter Hurley — widely regarded as the foremost headshot photographer in the world — the direction I provide is built specifically around drawing out genuine expression rather than manufactured pose. The difference shows in the final image.

Sessions and Pricing

Actor headshot sessions use the same studio, the same lighting and the same level of direction as my executive sessions. Pricing follows the same structure.

Most actors book The Signature to capture range across multiple looks. Theatrical and commercial are different conversations and often require different images. The Signature gives you enough variety to address both without committing to a full session for each. Click here for full pricing

What to Expect

Before Your Session You will receive a detailed prep guide covering wardrobe, hair and what to bring. I am happy to review your looks in advance via Zoom, FaceTime or photos — particularly useful for actors who want to make sure their wardrobe reads correctly for specific role types. If you want to talk through your goals and the markets you are pursuing before the session, that conversation is available.

During Your Session Direction is provided throughout. You will not be left guessing whether something is working. We review images together in real time so you can make adjustments and walk away knowing you have what you came for. The environment is private, relaxed and designed specifically for this work.

After Your Session Professionally retouched images delivered through a private online gallery. High-resolution files ready for submission, your agency, your website and Actors Access. Rush 24-hour delivery available when you have an audition deadline.

Wardrobe for Actor Headshots

Wardrobe is where most actor headshot sessions go wrong before they start. A few guidelines worth reading before your session.

Solid colors almost always work better than patterns. Your face is the subject — clothing should support it, not compete with it.

Bring more options than you think you need. Three to four looks minimum for a Signature session. Variety gives you range in the final images.

Think in role types, not outfits. What does the leading man wear versus the detective versus the business executive? Those are different conversations and different wardrobe choices. Thinking this way before you pack produces more useful images than thinking about what you like to wear.

Avoid large logos, busy prints and anything with text. They read as visual noise and date the image faster than anything else.

Hair and makeup should be session-ready before you arrive. Professional hair and makeup is available at the studio for an additional fee — contact me before your session to arrange it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you photograph both theatrical and commercial looks? Yes. Most actors need both and they are genuinely different images. Theatrical headshots tend toward a more intense, specific quality. Commercial headshots tend toward open, approachable and relatable. We discuss your markets before the session and make sure the looks we shoot are right for where you are submitting.

How many looks should I bring? For a Signature session, three to four looks. For a Profile session, one to two. Each look should be a distinct character shift — not just a color change.

Do you retouch actor headshots differently from executive headshots? The standard is the same — you at your best, not an altered version of yourself. Heavy retouching that removes character from an actor's face is counterproductive. The goal is always to look like you on your best day.

Can I use the images for Actors Access and casting submissions immediately? Yes. Delivered files are high resolution and formatted for digital submission, agency use and online casting platforms.

How far in advance should I book? Two to three weeks for best availability. If you have an upcoming audition or a deadline, reach out directly — I will do my best to accommodate it.

Where is the studio? 4725 1st Street, Suite 262 in downtown Pleasanton. Easy parking in three lots surrounding the building. Approximately 30 minutes from most East Bay locations.
