Dating Profile Photos

Your Profile Photo Is Your First Impression

On dating apps, your photo is doing more work than your bio. It's the first thing someone sees and the reason they decide to learn more or keep scrolling. Nina Pomeroy has been photographing people at their most natural and confident for 26 years. A dating profile session is relaxed, low-pressure and focused entirely on producing images that look genuinely like you on a great day.

What Makes a Great Dating Profile Photo

The best dating photos aren't stiff or overly polished. They're warm, natural and approachable, the kind that make someone feel like they already want to meet you.

A few things that consistently produce strong results:

  • Natural expressions over posed smiles, coaching is provided throughout so you don't have to figure out what to do with your face

  • Wardrobe that reflects your personality, not a costume, not a compromise

  • Clean, flattering lighting that looks good without looking like a professional shoot

  • Multiple looks so you have options across different parts of your profile

What to Expect

Before Your Session You'll receive a prep guide with wardrobe suggestions specifically for dating profile photography. The goal is to show up as yourself — put-together and relaxed.

During Your Session Sessions take place at the private studio at 4725 1st Street in downtown Pleasanton. The environment is comfortable and low-key. Direction is provided throughout on expression, posture and what to do with your hands so the results look natural rather than posed. Most sessions run 30 to 60 minutes with time for a wardrobe change.

After Your Session You'll select your favorite images from a private online gallery. All purchased images include professional retouching. Full-resolution files are included and optimized for dating app uploads.

What to Wear

Wardrobe for dating profile photos is different from professional headshots. A few guidelines:

  • Wear something you'd actually wear on a first date, it should feel like you

  • Colors that complement your skin tone photograph best, navy, jewel tones and warm neutrals all work well

  • Avoid large logos, busy patterns and anything that feels like a costume

  • Bring 2 options: a slightly dressed-up look and a more casual one gives you variety across your profile
