When's the best time to do family portraits?
That is one of the most frequent questions I get asked. And the answer is ANYTIME. This week started my latest installment of my ongoing project "My First Best Friend."
This project is the perfect example of how there's no such thing as a good time or bad time to plan your family's portraits. We've all heard the expression, life is short. Well it is. It can be. And regret is the worst feeling.
This session was a lot of fun with these two young siblings. The big brother is in preschool and his little sister is having fun just following him around. We had a beautiful Spring morning at the park and explored a bit together. The little curls of her hair reminded me of my daughter at that age. You know those curls don't last forever and I can still remember twirling them on my finger as she sat on my lap.
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Portraits | Equine
I don't know about you, but when I graduated high school, my graduation portraits did not look like these. Everyone's photos looked exactly the same. Same soft haze filter on the lens. Blue draped fabric across the shoulders, holding a silk rose. Seriously, they were horrible!
This high school senior wanted portraits at the stable in North Salem Westchester NY where her best equine friend lived. The day was spectacular and the location was just gorgeous.
These days, seniors want portraits that represent who they are right now. Young men can include sport uniforms, hobbies or even action shots doing any of their favorite activities. Young ladies request portraits with their horse, pet or even their favorite sport or activity. There's no limit on the creativity in which we can customize a session to really capture who you are.
So just think, these could be your graduation photos:
Funny Family Photographer
At the beginning of every session, I try and enlist the kids to help me test out my equipment and lighting. I tell them - do whatever you want - smile, frown, make a silly face. Inevitably, this gets them laughing - and usually me laughing as well. In this first photo, all 3 kids (only 2 are related) they all made the EXACT same face. Pretty hilarious! The lower photo - the first two were just as amused as I was!
Spring Portraits
Wishing everyone a wonderful long Memorial Day weekend as we kickoff the Summer months. The weather is spectacular and I'm thinking of all the heroes who deserve to be honored for their service and selflessness. Thank you to all who serve their country - freedom is never free! So be sure to say THANK YOU to all who serve our country.
Here's a recent favorite to share from a family mini session:
