Grandparent's love in pictures

I will admit, this is one of the most lovable grandfather's I've come across. You can see in his eyes that this little girl holds such a special place in his heart. Before I met her, he would talk about her all the time. He had photos of her on his desk and I just knew that they had to be one of the special pairs in my grandparent/grandchild study titled “My First Best Friend.”

These are some of my favorite people. The boys have tolerated me over the years -after all -they are boys. But in the end, I think they know it makes Mom happy and we all do have a fun time together. 

Tips to get great family photos

“My kids never cooperate for family photos” - how many times have I heard this? One of the many reasons its great to hire someone else to do your holiday photos. Kids are notorious for NOT cooperating for parents but being great for others. Nevertheless, here are some tips:

1.     Make kids part of the process. Ask your children to help pick out what everyone should wear. The days of matchy-matchy are over! Don’t be afraid to show a little personality. Sweaters, scarves and even hats make nice touches.

2.     Use a self timer. Explain to the child that they need to press the shutter and then they have 10 seconds to run back to Mom and Dad. It’s fun and they will certainly be laughing from all the running back and forth.

3.     Give them a prop. Have kids sit on or snuggle in a blanket, or give them a favorite toy, bubbles, a pine cone, a flower; anything but food. Chewing never looks good in photos.

And most of all RELAX! We all want that perfect shot of our children looking like angels but is that realistic? Some of the best photos are ones where kids are laughing and even sometimes pouting.

Ballet Dancer Portraits

I knew I had to find time for this special project. I myself took dance classes as a child for one semester but could not continue on with my dance training as my family could not afford it. 

I knew I wanted to create something new and magical for this project. So after 3 hours of setting up my studio at her location and working with all the wonderful dancers and teachers I created some beautiful portraits that I am very proud of. 

The inaugural Gala will take place on Saturday September 20th from 3pm-6pm. It will be a fun afternoon of performances, silent auctions, wine tasting and hor d'oeuvres. In addition to donating my time and prints to this display, I am also donating a Gift Certificate to the silent auction so be sure to stop by - and bid! This event is free and open to the public.

I don’t think I’ve ever been the presence of such beauty and grace as they young ladies. This was an experimental photoshoot and I really enjoyed experimenting with the many lighting techniques I’ve learned over the years. So many beautiful images to share from a very inspiring photo session but you'll have to come to the gala opening on Saturday September 20th at 3pm to see them in their large format printed glory. California Lifestyle Photographer

This very special lady won my auction package and saved it for when her niece was visiting from southern California. I couldn't have had a better time with this beautiful teen on such a nice Summer morning. We each had so much to share. This knowledgeable aunt taught me so much about the native birds, trees and flowers. I too had the opportunity to answer some photography questions as well. All and all it was another day that made me realize how lucky I truly am to love what I do and meet such wonderful people.
