My First Best Friend Sessions™ - California Edition

After much public acclaim in New York and Connecticut for my "My First Best Friend™" series, I am now bringing it to my new home in California. This is a photographic study of the very special relationship between a grandparent and a grandchild.  If you are not familiar with the very personal and inspirational story behind these sessions - please read this first.

On April 28th owner Rocio Sofia Ordonez will graciously open up her Craft Maker's Studio for us to have these special studio sessions. Capturing the one-of-a-kind relationship (of all ages) between a grandparent and grandchild in a portrait is a gift that will be passed on for generations to come.

These sessions will result in the most PERFECT  Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts.

The online calendar will open for appointments to our newsletter subscribers first so get on our list below so you don't miss them. Booking opens up on March 30th with a BONUS for subscribers who book that day!

Historically, these sessions have sold out quickly so we are releasing the online booking link to our mailing list subscribers first. Sign up to get on the list.

Personal Branding is for YOUPRENEURS

YOUPRENEURS?! What another buzzword? Yes, sort of. It encompasses all those who know the hustle is real. You get up thinking about your business and often you're up at night thinking about your business. Chances are you LOVE your business - so why not share that with everyone at your very FIRST IMPRESSION. And when is that? More than likely it's on social media.

Does your headshot convey your "why?" Have you identified and written out your why? One of my favorite books is Start with Why by Simon Sinek. Once you are clear on your why - it will allow you to focus and market to your ideal client. And that's another topic to be discussed in another blog post - identifying down your ideal client - down to the car they drive and the places they shop.

This beautiful woman is the face of Thrive This Day. She is one of two very inspiring ladies who are touring with their acclaimed "Living Your Inspired Life" workshop. I attended their workshop in Oakland CA and it attracted a great group of people who shared their vunerabilities, their passions and the common goal of wanting to make the most out of this life we are given. Their next workshop is in LA on May 12th and after that Boston on June 23rd. I highly recommend you check them out!

What NOT to Do During a Headshot Session Tips
what-not-to-do-at-a-headshot-session-tips-by-san-francisco-photographer-nina-pomeroy.jpg

Not all photographers coach their clients on what to do and what NOT to do during a headshot session. Many aren't skilled on how to pose their subjects to best flatter features; equally how to deaccentuate features you may not love.

In addition, many take the time to get to know you and your business to customize a session for maximum results.

Knowing my client's goals are IMPERATIVE to creating beautiful imagery that they will be happy with. Not to mention, this is my favorite part - getting to know one another so I can have creative liberty to create images that I KNOW you will love.

So, what about what NOT to do during a headshot session?

Here's my top 3 list:

1. Don't expect the photographer will photoshop you into a front page model. Take the time to prepare (I supply you a preparation booklet that makes this super easy.)

2. Don't assume you know the best way to pose for the camera. When hiring an experienced professional headshot photographer you should also be getting a posing coach.

3. Don't forget styling and makeup. Styling comprises of clothing and props. If your session is a Personal Branding session where we visit multiple locations with you doing different things, it helps to plan ahead. I almost always recommend professional makeup. This is not wedding day makeup, however, a professional makeup artist will know how to accentuate certain features that can make or break a headshot. (Did you know that eyebrows is one of the top 3 things that I say must be visited by your makeup artist to make a great portrait?)

Was this helpful? Have you experienced other don'ts? Please comment below and share on social media. I would LOVE to hear from you!

Melissa + Michelle | Winter Park Wedding

Founded in 1915, The Woman’s Club of Winter Park is one of the oldest clubs in Winter Park. It's only fitting that these two woman choose this location in Orlando as they have known one another since the beginning of high school. In between rain sprinkles with an occasional sun ray, these beautiful brides said “I do.”

Life has had it's challenges for these two high school sweethearts carrying on their special relationship across the country. It brought a tear to my eye during their heartfelt vows. (Everyone knows I'm a crier!)  Their love of photography was detailed throughout the wedding. From the insta-cameras, to the history of their lives shown in old and present photos! The stunning tables were filled with beautiful succulent plants and candles lit throughout.

We spent the morning racing back and forth across the hallway between the hotel rooms in The Alfond Inn for the “getting ready” photos. Watching Melissa read a heartfelt letter from her future wife was a beautifully quiet moment. My favorite photographs came from their first look. The light on their faces as they saw each other dressed in their wedding finest for the first time could not have been more special.

I highly suggest couples to have first look portraits before their wedding. By including a first look, couples are able to enjoy the cocktail hour and spend more time celebrating with their guests. Despite having seen each other before the ceremony, there were still plenty of tears for both Melissa and Michelle when it came time for the ceremony.

One of the most unique aspects of the wedding is that they had their four closest friends officiate the ceremony. All in all - one of my favorite weddings to capture. Congratulations Melissa and Michelle!! xxoo

Personal Branding Lifestyle Session

At this Personal Branding Lifestyle Session I spent the morning and early afternoon with this super talented woman. She's a jewelry designer with highly sought-after exclusive designs AND she's an unbelievable singer/songwriter. She has so much talent it's insane! Here's just a small sampling of our fun session together. There's nothing like having a variety of images in your arsenal to use on multiple platforms and venues.

What are the top 3 things a great headshot can do?
chairwoman-headshot-photographer-nina-pomeroy-sanfrancisco.jpg

We’ve all seen it: A well designed profile page on someone’s website mismatched with a poor headshot. Sure, you've done amazing work in the world, people love you, but that badly cropped mobile phone snapshot from a recent beach vacation only contradicts your credentials.

A poor headshot says that don't care how the public views you. It also says that you don't believe you are worth investing in yourself. So why should a potential client invest in you?

The top 3 things a great headshot can do for you and your business:

  1. Everyone should have a great photo of themself. It makes you feel good to look your best. Having a quality image of yourself to share with your professional peers boosts your self confidence, and it can even inspire you to share more of yourself with others, take a few risks, and overcome work-related challenges.
  2. People are visual. If the first image they see of you is a professional headshot portrait then you will stay top of mind. If it's a horrible photo, they just might skip right over you. A good headshot gives people an idea of your personality before they meet you in person.
  3. You will use it everywhere. You can use it on your website, social media, PR for any speaking engagements/workshops. Order a print one for your Mom! You'll be surprised at all the great uses you will have for it.
