1 – Choose your position carefully. I’m not recommending getting there 12 hours early and camping out, but consider your location for a great vantage point as well as take note of what’s in the background. Perhaps the Cathedral spire?

2. Use fill-flash. Yes, I don’t always recommend flash but in this instance much of the avenue is in the shade so some fill flash will really help improve your photos.

3. Capture the spectators. As a New Yorker, I know that sometimes the best part of a large event is the people watching! Yes, feel free to candidly photograph all the great characters that will be out that day.

4. If your camera’s metering can be adjusted, set it to matrix (or averaged) metering. This will allow the camera to take into consideration the full frame when setting the shutter and aperture.

5. Experiment with panning. This is where you move your camera along with the subject. You may also want to slower your shutter speed while trying this technique as you can capture the motion of the image while keeping your main subject in focus.

Spring is coming…I hear the birds more often, and we’ve made it through January and February with very little snow! I keep seeing my favorite color orange more and more..after reading this article I see that specifically Tangerine Tango is the hot color of Spring 2012. How bold will you be? Will you wear orange pants? blouse? or simply accessorize your existing wardrobe with say a new orange purse or bracelet?

Above are some of the other hot colors this coming season. Consider using some of them in your wardrobe when planning for your portrait session.

Nina accepts a limited number of portrait sessions each month. Please allow 3-6 weeks to schedule your session.
