Over the years, I’ve been asked many times if photography is my dream job. And honestly, it is. It’s not just a dream job, it’s not even a job. It’s something that if I honestly did not have to support my family doing, I would still do it..and for free. I donate to countless charitable auctions every year. The one that means the most to me is Giving Is Awesome. Every year around the holidays I ask for nominations of family’s in need that you know what appreciate the gift of portraiture.
In 2008, a client nominated a family in which the Mom has battled Leukemia as a teenager and was also dealing with breast cancer in her 30′s. On top of that, she was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent an extensive surgery to remove her voice box. She is married with two young boys and her youngest has never even heard his mother’s voice other than thru an artificial voice box. After that procedure they found another lump on her throat and went through more surgery and treatment.
I communicated with her husband and we were able to find a time where she was feeling well enough to do their family’s portrait session. It was a beautiful late Summer afternoon and for me, it touched my heart in a way that has never been before. Their portraits were beautiful and they received all of them.
Sadly, last evening, after a very long fight, she has passed. Please keep this very special family in your prayers.
